Nurses from Overseas

To work as a nurse in Australia, overseas applicants need a valid work visa. We are currently unable to offer sponsorship due to the limited availability of permanent positions with our partner hospitals.

Work as a Registered Nurse in Australia

  • Registration: You must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). We highly recommend completing your application and obtaining your registration before arriving in Australia.
  • Experience: Even with AHPRA registration, you'll need to meet our minimum experience level to work as an agency nurse. Contact us if you're unsure about the required experience.
  • Police checks: An Australian Police Check is mandatory, even if you have an international check.
  • Immunization: Ensure your immunizations meet NSW Health standards. Many nurses need a dTpa (Boostrix) booster, as it might not be on your current record.

Work as an Assistant in Nursing (AIN)

  • To work as an AIN, you must hold an Australian qualification - Certificate III.
  • Acute care hospital – Cert III in Health Services Assistance.
  • Nursing Home or Aged Care – Cert III in individual Support.
  • Overseas qualifications are not recognised but some Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s) may be able to offer you the option of converting your overseas qualification into an equivalent Certificate III. This process is called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) but it can be an expensive exercise.

Working Holiday Visa holders

  • We have nursing opportunities across our hospitals for those with AHPRA registration.
  • If you haven't obtained AHPRA registration yet, we may have private client care positions available (on an as-needed basis). This depends on your past healthcare experience.
  • You must have a current Australian First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003) an Australian Police Check and have documentation of an annual flu vaccination (specific for Australia – due July 1 each year).
  • Hold a visa that allows work for more than six months with the agency, as long as you don't work for any single client for over six months (counted from your first shift with them).
